Where is the raw material
purchased?

Mostly silk is used for Hakata-ori. We use Japanese and imported
silk from China, Korea, Brazil and Vietnam. Long ago, Japan
used to produce raw silk in large quantities and sell it overseas.
Since the price of buying from overseas became cheaper, the
amount of imported silk grew gradually.
Is Hakata-ori exported overseas?

As only Japanese wear kimono, kimono and obi are seldom
exported. However, sometimes it is exported as neckties
and dress fabric. Recently, new products made of Hakata-ori
including bags, sandals and accessories were very well received
in the U.S.
